Story
Made in Hethel, England. Road & Track: “the Elan is one of the greatest sports cars ever made.”
<1500 lbs – steel backbone chassis with fiberglass body. Engine is based on the Ford 1.6 liter with Lotus designed twin cam head and twin Weber sidedrafts. Approximately 10,000 Elans were made between 1962 and 1973. Of the 10k Elans, 1.5k were Series 2 (S2), and less than 100 of those were Special Equipment (SE) with more power, and other features. SE: 0-60 in 6.6 sec (Non-SE: 0-60 in 7.5 sec). 4 wheel independent suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes
Our Lotus Elan: Purchased in 2016. In 1966, this car was purchased new by Henry Austin Clark Jr for his son. He owned the Long Island Auto Museum and Bridgehampton Race Track. He traded in a 1963 split window Corvette for it. Total miles - less than 25,000 miles (part of its life was being displayed in the Museum). One of less than 10 documented surviving S2/SE in the world
