Thank you for checking out the my Type 3 Fastback. This is my first aircooled Volkswagen since High School and came into our lives in 2014. She was nicknamed the Mistress as I spent spare time with her and not my wife. Plus she was the only car allowed to park in the garage. Lately she has become more of a Diva as she has not gotten all the attention she wants.
Some details: Car was bought new in January 1971 at Van Slyke Volkswagen in Knoxville TN. (Lot is still there but it is a Harley Dealership). The first owner had the car for 32 years and had an accident that damaged the passenger rear quarter and after several years of sitting he and the son repaired the car. The son drove it for a few years until he sold it to go to College. It then passed to an owner in North Carolina for 10 years before moving north to the cold of Buffalo NY. I bought it from a gentleman outside of New York City and has been with out eversince with no interest in moving her on.
Special Items:
Paperwork: Orignal Bill of Sale from Dealer, 30 plus years of registrations
Exterior: Exterior resprayed once about 15 years ago. Interior in original paint
Interior: Trim and seats are original except for some carpet and the center consol and stick shift. Consol is VW vintage and stick shift is from a Type 3, previous owner had added an after market one that did not work well.
Drivetrain: Engine and Transaxle are matching number original. Car was FI from the factory but had been replace by Weber 40 duel carborators while in Buffalo. Along with an aftermarkect muffler. Since in my ownership the Webers were removed as to large for engine and replaced with a Factory Dual Solex's and a oil bath airfilter. Set up as was availabe on the car worldwide (except the US) until 1973. Upgraded the muffler to a Vintage Speed high flow Abarth inspired one and the car is much happier. Car has been lowered about an inch and rides on Porsche 914 aftermarket wheels.
Accessories: 1980 Westfalia Essen Baggage Trailer, is a great small lightweight trailer to carry items and leave more room in the car. Trailer hitch is a VW part.
Thank you for looking.
