Story

GT Motorsports is Georgia Tech’s student-run Formula SAE team, comprised of over 140 students who design, build, and race a fully custom formula-style racecar each year. Competing against more than 120 universities from around the world, the team participates annually in Formula SAE Michigan—one of the most competitive collegiate engineering events globally.

Car 3 is the team’s 2026 competition vehicle, powered by a Honda CBR600RR engine and engineered entirely in-house—from chassis and suspension to a full carbon fiber aerodynamic package. Designed for tight, technical autocross-style circuits, the car emphasizes agility, grip, and precision. Its aerodynamic system—including a front wing, undertray, and rear wing—generates significant downforce, allowing the car to maintain speed through corners and maximize performance on short, twisty tracks.

The name “Car 3” commemorates GT Motorsports’ 3rd place overall finish at the 2025 Formula SAE Michigan competition—marking the team’s best result in over two decades and a milestone in its continued pursuit of a championship.
