Story
1967 Shelby GT350 #1609 was built on 3/22/1967 at Ford in San Jose, CA and then completed 4/14/1967 by Shelby American in Los Angeles CA. It was shipped to Brondes Ford, Toledo OH on 4/29/1967. There were a total of 3,225 Shelby GT350/500's manfuctured, 1,175 were GT350s, which were powered by the HiPo 289 V-8 small block engine mated to a 4-speed or automatic transmission. This car was built with the "inboard highbeam headlights".
#1609 previously had 5 owners, the car was restored in 1970 and again in 1989. I was home on US Navy leave from Norfolk VA in Melbourne, FL when I picked up the Classic Car Auto Trader and saw #1609 for sale in Orlando in 1995. I made an offer, it was accepted and I drove it back to Norfolk. Since then, the car has been enjoyed for many miles for cruise-ins, shows, drives, and even on the race track at the Shelby American Automobile Club yearly conventions. As Carroll Shelby said, "These cars are built to be driven".
